he
Australian Golf Club, one of the countrys most
prestigious clubs, was founded in 1882. The course is
located on a 175-acre site in Kensington, which is just
due south of Sydney. Jack Nicklaus came into the picture
in 1976, when he was asked to submit ideas for a redesign
of the venerable course. Actual construction began in
1977, with Jack himself supervising. He introduced a
number of water carries and planted many trees to transform
The Australian Golf Club from a virtually barren linksland
course to one like the lush tree-lined designs found
in the United States. In reproducing this course, I
unfortunately did not have a lot of resources to work
from, so its accuracy is not guaranteed. My course recreation
was completed in August of 1993 and it was my second
course for the PNGT tour, but the first that was designed
specifically for it. The Australian Golf Club features
some tight fairways lined by many native trees. Water
also comes into play on a few key holes as well. Measuring
out at almost 7100 yards from the championship tees,
the course makes distance a key factor. More details
on The Australian Golf Club can be found in the text
file that is included with the course.
